Partnership with the Singapore Environment Council

Coca-Cola Singapore is committed to making a positive difference in the world by making sustainability a part of everything we do, including spreading and furthering the recycling initiative among Singaporeans. To inspire Singaporeans to make recycling a way of life, we work closely with the Singapore Environment Council (SEC), a non-government organisation that nurtures, facilitates and co-ordinates environmental causes in Singapore, to educate and raise awareness about sustainable packaging and recycling, as well as to motivate Singaporeans to recycle more. Some key highlights of our partnership in the past several years include:

  • In 2015, Coca-Cola partnered SEC and its group of environmental volunteers known as the Earth Helpers to conceptualise and execute the SEC Coca-Cola® Eco Autumn Festival, where an eco-lantern competition along with interactive exhibits and eco-skits engaged the public throughout the full-day event. The highlight of the Festival was a 7.3 metre by 2.4 metre backdrop made with 10,512 plastic bottle caps, which earned a place in the Singapore Book of Records.
  • In 2016, Coca-Cola Singapore and the SEC jointly launched the Schools’ Recycling Bin Design Competition 2016 to find innovative ways to increase the national recycling rate in Singapore. The Competition involved students coming together in teams to conceptualise recycling bins using materials that are sustainably sourced, upcycled or recycled as inspiration for their designs. The strongest entries were shortlisted, and the winners were announced at an awards ceremony on 10 November 2016 based on votes received from a judging panel and members of the public. In 2017, a prototype trial of the winning design will be rolled out to 200 households and 100 schools to test the effectiveness of the bins, and to gather data on recycling habits and attitudes. The results of the trial will be revealed by end 2017.
